First weekend of #Pride2021
It may not seem like much, but I am one of the lucky few queer individuals to never really have problems with “coming out.” And acknowledging this as a privilege means recognizing that many if not most of us are still in the closet, and are not free to live their truth.
Our responsibility is to make sure that everyone feels safe; if someone trusts you with their SOGIE, keep it, and most importantly respect them.
The microagressions of “uy bakla daw si ano,” or even “ay sabi ko na barbie,” are not okay. They perpetuate stereotypes and harbor fear within the queer community and internalize homophobia that set our fight for equality back.
To our folks who are still on the road to self discovery, take your time. Your moment and identity is yours and no one can take that away from you.
